Hard mode makes the entire game a lot harder than it is on either of the two other modes (which I found to be relatively indifferent from one another). That means that headshots will remove an entire healthbar, and you simply take a lot more damage overall. I can’t really tell if enemies act smarter, but I don’t think they utilise different strategies, simply because of the difficulty.

► TIPS & TRICKS

– Whenever you use the N.I.C.W grenade fire mode., NGL-8 Nanotech Grenade Launcher, MKAP-97 or the W.A.S.P., be aware that you’ll very often sustain lots of damage when using nearby objects or small corridors (which will be the case in many levels, actually!). Whenever you’re in close-quarter areas, simply use the shotgun, pistols or rifles instead.

– A health-kit is best picked-up when you are at least one healthbar (or lower) down.

– Grenades have a very akward air trajectory, which is very arc-like, rather than in a horizontal line. Very often you’ll bump your grenades against the ceiling into objects and back to you, so beware. The sticky grenades do not have this problem as much.

– Headshots are lethal on you, but so are they on enemies. Aim for the head with rifles like the CAR-72 Military Assault Rifle or the N.I.C.W.

► LEVEL TIPS

The first part of this mission requires you to take cover behind either the red pipeline on the very left or the metal closets somewhat right of the overturned car. I prefer the latter since it provides cover from all angles. The only bonus objective here involves dropping down a large (concrete?) block on the far left of the large building by shooting the cable holding it all up. You MUST, however, wait for the enemy to stand under it, otherwise it will have no effect. Overall the mission is easy if you keep strafing left and right whilst trying to headshot enemies with the NPSR-755 Precision Sniper Rifle.

All other parts of this mission take place underwater and mainly involves destroying enemy submarines. Most bonus objectives are straightforward, but the very last one is quite hard on… well yes, hard mode. You need to survive even if the docking bay has been unlocked, but the problem here is that most submarines will pop-up behind your back and fire at you from long ranges, probably making you take a hit or two before you realise what’s going on. That’s also why I often look back and forth in the video. Meanwhile explosive barrels will randomly be dropped from the surface, forcing you to go down where there are also homing mines, so try to stay in the safe middlezone when this happens! This can take a long time before completion, so stay frosty and be patient. Also, on very rare occasion, the subs might stop respawning and still not trigger the bonus, requiring you to restart.

The bonus objective requiring you to shoot the barrels and crates is easy, but you’ll need good brightness settings to see the fuel drums properly, as they tend to blend in with the muddy river bottom.
